Mr. Varun Maharaj is an accomplished financial services executive with over 25 years of leadership experience across the Caribbean region. He has built a distinguished career spanning banking, investments, capital markets, and economic development, and has a proven track record of strengthening institutions, launching innovative financial products, and advancing the region’s competitiveness in international finance. A seasoned executive, Mr. Maharaj is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a qualified Attorney-at-Law, and a Chartered Wealth Manager. He brings a unique blend of financial acumen, strategic vision, and legal expertise.
Mr. Maharaj brings a wealth of leadership experience to his new role as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Unit Trust Corporation. He is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Maritime Capital Limited. Before this, he served as the Chief Executive Officer at the Trinidad and Tobago International Financial Centre (TTIFC), where he was instrumental in attracting international business and investment, significantly improving Trinidad and Tobago’s competitiveness in the global market.
His extensive experience also includes providing strategic advice to the financial services sector within the ANSA McAL Group and undertaking practical legal training to be admitted to the bar in Trinidad and Tobago.
His involvement with key industry organizations further demonstrates Mr. Maharaj’s dedication to professional excellence. He is a proud member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Trinidad and Tobago, a Chartered Director, and a member of the Institute of Directors in the United Kingdom. Mr. Maharaj is also a member of the Law Association of Trinidad and Tobago.
