13 new students added to the program
August 6, 2025 | PORT OF SPAIN: The Unit Trust Corporation (UTC) proudly welcomed 13 new scholars to its S.E.A. Scholarship Programme. The latest cycle of the program kicked off with the ‘Strategies for Success’ event, held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at the National Cycling Centre, Couva. Now in its 29th year, the program welcomed 13 new scholars into a community of over 250 active students, reaffirming UTC’s ongoing commitment to financially empowering young people.
Since its inception in 1996, the UTC S.E.A. Scholarship Programme has served over 500 high-performing students from disadvantaged backgrounds and invested over TT$15M in supporting the academic needs of the students. “This programme is very close to our hearts. For 29 years, the S.E.A. Scholarship Programme has been more than just financial aid,” stated Mr. Deyson Scott, UTC’s Chief Sales and Marketing Officer. “We believe deeply in the power of education to transform lives. The scholars remind us why it matters so much and why we will continue to grow the program to help even more children.”
Hosted by entertainment professional, Sunny Bling, ‘Strategies for Success’ featured a compelling lineup of speakers. Soca artiste and former national athlete, Jesse ‘College Boy Jesse’ Stewart, shared his journey, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and pursuing dreams. Jesse, who holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees, spoke about balancing his commitments as a student and his passion for music and sports.

Also in attendance was Miss World Trinidad and Tobago 2024, Anna-Lise Nanton, who delivered an engaging presentation that focused on overcoming barriers and cultivating self-confidence by sharing her experience participating in the international competition.
Representatives from the Children’s Authority of Trinidad and Tobago also attended, providing students with essential information about their rights and advising them on advocating for themselves in challenging situations.
“The Unit Trust Corporation remains dedicated to supporting education and empowering the next generation of leaders,” affirmed Ms. Shoba Ganess, UTC’s Marketing Manager. “We are committed to providing the tools and encouragement necessary for these young individuals to excel, contribute meaningfully to society, and realize their full potential.”
UTC further demonstrated its dedication to promoting early financial literacy by offering a targeted incentive to students who completed the 2025 S.E.A. examination. Parents were invited to open a Children’s Investment Starter Plan (CISP) account with an initial deposit of $100. UTC matched this amount by adding an extra $200 into the investment. The CISP aims to introduce young savers to the fundamentals of investing, foster early financial education, and encourage long-term wealth accumulation.
