A Landmark Achievement for Local Financial Institutions
Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago | November 18, 2025: The Trinidad and Tobago Unit Trust Corporation (UTC) proudly announces its historic win at the AMCHAM TT HSSE Excellence Awards 2025, securing the ‘Outstanding H.S.E Evolution’ Award in the Large Services category. UTC is the first financial institution in Trinidad and Tobago to receive this honour, marking a significant milestone in advancing Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) standards beyond traditional sectors known for adhering to comprehensive international HSSE standards.
This achievement marks the culmination of a dedicated, five-year journey to embed a resilient culture of safety at the heart of UTC’s operations. Since its first entry in 2019, the Corporation has consistently demonstrated commitment to HSSE excellence, which the AMCHAM TT HSSE Excellence Awards have recognized. Notably, the Corporation received Nominations in Excellence in 2022 and 2023, as well as an Honourable Mention for Outstanding HSE Project for its ‘Capturing All Risk Early (C.A.R.E.)’ program, which encouraged proactive hazard reporting via WhatsApp.
Building on the lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, UTC enhanced its safety culture through strategic initiatives, including the Leadership Program S.C.O.R.E., which improved leadership engagement in health, safety, security, and environmental (HSSE) practices. As a result of these efforts, the company improved its legal compliance rating and employee involvement, further embedding and strengthening the safety culture.
Jerron Abraham, Manager, Health, Safety and Facilities Management at the UTC commented, “This is indeed an auspicious occasion not only for UTC but for all companies outside of the Energy and Manufacturing sector, as this recognition by AMCHAM TT signals that a robust safety management system and strong safety culture are not exclusive to specific industries. While I acknowledge that improving your safety culture will not be an overnight success and without its challenges, I can reassure you that it is certainly attainable by any company that is genuinely committed to ensuring the safety of all stakeholders.”
AMCHAM TT’s recognition of UTC’s success reflects the company’s unwavering commitment to strategic planning, partnership, and execution, demonstrating the Corporation’s dedication to evolving its business to meet modern international standards across all business lines. This award marks a new era in Trinidad and Tobago, where non-traditional sectors should be encouraged to go beyond just legal compliance when creating a safer workplace for all stakeholders.
