PROTECTING YOUR INVESTMENT – PERSONAL SECURITY TIPS: ATM SAFETY TIPS

 

In today’s environment, we are faced with people who have become more sophisticated in their techniques to scam citizens of their money. You do not want to be a victim of fraud as it is a severe inconvenience to you and your family. Your best defense, however, is securing your card and personal funds against such attacks. With this in mind, we have listed below some ways in which people may try to scam you and offer   personal security tips to help protect your investment.

ATM SAFETY TIPS

  • As you approach an ATM, be aware of your surroundings and have your card ready
  • Always use ATM machines during the day or at well-lit locations during the night
  • Do not use any ATM  that has suspicious protruding parts or unusual card readers
  • Do NOT accept help from anyone at the ATM
  • If an ATM captures your card,  immediately contact UTC  via one of the following options to have your card blocked:
    • 625-8648 Available daily 7 a.m. to 10.00 p.m. inclusive of public holidays.
    • After 10:00 p.m., a voice message can be left
    • Send email to CardandOnlineServiceRepresentatives@ttutc.com advising that your card has been captured. Be sure to include a contact number as well.
    • Visit the nearest UTC Investment Centre to report that your card has been captured, and to have it blocked. Verify your last transaction activity.
  • NEVER reveal your PIN to anyone, not even family. No staff member will ever ask for your PIN.
  • Do not write your PIN down and do not use PINs such as date of birth or other significant dates
  • COVER your hand when entering your PIN at an ATM or point of sale terminal. Make a habit of doing this even when you are alone.
  • Check your statements regularly or review all your transaction activity via UTC U-Online or UTC ATM mini statements.
