![]() Amoy Van Lowe UTC Chief Marketing Officer St. Benedicts Tops UTC School’s Investment Game for 2nd time in 3 years.For the second time in three years, St Benedict’s College has taken the 1st prize in the annual Unit Trust Corporation Schools' Investment Game. “The Student Investment Game (SIG) is very interesting, it gives me an opportunity to keep abreast with the local investment market, it helps the student to do research both on-line and in the daily newspapers. As a teacher the game brings the subject of Economics to life in the class room", said Mr Chandrahans Roopchand, teacher of the winning St. Benedict’s Team. St. Benedicts College also won the UTC S.I.G. in 2005. The St. Benedict’s team beat out teams from over 40 other secondary schools to take home the grand prize of $10,000 for their school, a trophy, $300 investment in the UTC Growth & Income Fund for each student along with a two-month internship at the Unit Trust Corporation. Chief Marketing Officer of the UTC, Ms Amoy Van Lowe in her address to the winning students at the prize giving function said, “The doors of the SIG Hall of Fame are opened to you; there are unimaginable and limitless opportunities to explore in every respect of your life, be it career, social or otherwise. I passionately hope the exposure and knowledge derived from this workshop has provided the impetus for you to continue to learn about the inner workings of the financial sector. Advance your investing skills acquired from this workshop, read and read plenty, ask questions and get involved. This will certainly set the platform for you to explore life's array of opportunities. Remember you only face the limits you set for yourself." Over the course of the 16 weeks Schools Investment Game, teams were challenged to shrewdly invest the notional sum of $20,000 with the goal of garnering the greatest return. The winning teams received their prizes at the UTC Schools' Investment Game prize giving ceremony on April 30th 2008. To celebrate the Corporation’s 25th Anniversary, every student participating in the game received an investment from the UTC. The UTC will kick off the 18th Schools' Investment Game in late September 2008.
