This comes as a result of the continued work by the Just Because Foundation (a non-profit organization dedicated to the improving the lives of children and families facing the challenges of pediatric cancer) and the NCHRA to provide more comfortable facilities for children and families facing pediatric cancer treatment at the nation’s largest health facility. “The support from the private sector on this project has been overwhelming,” said Chevaughn Joseph, co-founder of the Just Because Foundation (JBF). “It feels like a dream is finally coming true thanks to the support of the private sector.” The Just Because Foundation is spearheading a drive to make Ward 2 at the EWMSC a “kid friendly” Pediatric Specialty Unit wherein pediatric cancer patients can receive necessary treatment in an area specially designed for their needs and the needs of their families. In addition to paint and tiles donated by Berger Paints and Ceramic Trinidad Limited respectively, project coordinators were most inspired by the answer to the call for volunteers on the massive project. “When the JBF called for help our staff was ready to answer,” said Danielle A. Jones, Assistant Vice President Communications “This is another project of the UTC’s ongoing Community Outreach initiative whereby we will show our commitment to improving the communities we have been privileged to serve for over 25 years.” The 200 volunteers from the UTC joined teams from Habitat for Humanity, Parents of Children with Cancer Support Group, Pepper Advertising, Regency Recruitment, the POS Roteract Club and Covenant House of Praise. “The work the volunteers did in such a short time is amazing,” Said Chevaughn Joseph of the JBF. “ If ‘JB’ (the son of JBF Founders, Chevaughn and Noel Joseph) were here, he would say “Wow! This is Cool!” The Just Because Foundation would like to thank the following companies for their contribution to this phase of this initiative (in alphabetical order):
This volunteer activity was first of many phases of this massive project to bring comfortable surroundings to the hundreds of children that battle Pediatric Cancer each year. For more information on the rehabilitation project, please contact the JBF at 344-6613.
