Amoy Chang Fong Ms Chang Fong is a dynamic individual with an impressive professional portfolio. She received a BSc in Economics in 1967 from the University of Hull in England, and upon her return to Trinidad she worked at the Board of Inland Revenue. She then joined the Central Bank in 1968 as a Research Assistant, advancing to Senior Manager, Bank Operations.
In 1993 Ms Chang Fong became an Adviser to the Executive Director of the Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Two years later she became the first woman to be appointed Deputy Governor of the Central Bank in 1995, a position she held until her retirement in 2005.
During her 36 years with the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago, Ms Chang Fong played a major role in the establishment of many of the Bank's contact in the international foreign exchange and capital markets, and made invaluable contributions at the Board level.
She has previously served as a Director of the UTC, the Stock Exchange, the Home Mortgage Bank and as a Commissioner at the Securities Exchange Commission.
Terrence Bharath
Called to the Bar of England & Wales in 1987, and admitted to practice as an Attorney-at-Law in Trinidad & Tobago in that year, Mr Bharath has been practicing law in this country since 1987.
He functions principally as an Advocate Attorney-at-Law in the field of Commercial Litigation. He is also a tutor at Hugh Wooding Law School.
Mr Bharath currently also serves as a Director at CBP Limited, a spice and condiment processing company.
Michal Yvette Andrews
Mrs Andrews has served as a Director on the UTC Board since 1997,and is also the current Chairman of the Belize Unit Trust.
A qualified accountant with 30 years of practical experience mainly in the area of taxation, she has developed substantial local, regional and international experience in this area. She is a former Commissioner of Inland Revenue, and was responsible for implementation of the Value Added Tax regime in Trinidad & Tobago. She has also assisted other countries in preparing for the implementation of their VAT systems: namely Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Puerto Rico, St Vincent, and Zimbabwe.
Mrs Andrews is a former Principal of Ernst & Young and headed their tax practice in Trinidad and Tobago. She was a part-time lecturer in Taxation for the MSC Accounting Programme at UWI’s Department of Management Studies, and also served as a member of this country’s Double Taxation Negotiating Team.
Mrs. Andrews holds a BSc in Accounting, a postgraduate Diploma from Harvard University’s International Tax Programme, is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants (FCCA), and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Trinidad & Tobago (ICATT).
Alan Fitzwilliam
Mr Fitzwilliam brings approximately 20 years worth of experience in the local financial sector, spending much of that time with the Republic Bank group. During his tenure at Republic Bank, he specialised in corporate finance, helping to create the Design Finance Construct Model used by government to fund large-scale public projects in health, utilities, security, as well as air and sea port development.
The current Director of Finance & Business Development at FT Farfan & Sons Limited, Mr Fitzwilliam is also a non-executive director on the Board of FINCOR – Republic Finance & Merchant Bank Limited.
Mr Fitzwilliam has a Bachelor’s degree with a Major in Finance from the University of Western Ontario.
Herbert Goon Lun
A qualified accountant, Mr Goon Lun has accrued extensive experience during his career and has carried out Audit, Tax, Corporate Secretarial and other special assignments in several organizations primarily within the finance and energy sectors.
In addition to his role as a Director at the Unit Trust Corporation, Mr Goon Lun is the Chairman of Business Services Group Limited, and is also a Director of the Colonial Fire and General Insurance Company Limited. He has been a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Trinidad and Tobago (ICATT) since 1979, and was admitted as an Associate of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) in the same year. He was made a Fellow of the ACCA in 1984.
His career includes positions in firms such as Pannell Fitzpatrick and Company, and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
Kristine Gibbon-Thompson
Mrs. Thompson was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Trinidad and Tobago Unit Trust Corporation on February 1, 2010. She is currently Chief Executive Officer of Canboulay Energy Capital and Vice President, Strategic Development at Carisal Investment Holdings Limited, a private equity energy fund based in the Caribbean.
Prior to joining Canboulay/Carisal, Mrs. Thompson spent eight years at Guardian Holdings Limited (GHL), a pan-Caribbean financial services company, where as Vice President, Business Development, she led the Mergers and Acquisitions function over a period where GHL quadrupled in size. She was also actively involved in the Group’s strategic planning and was a member of the Senior Executive team. In 2004, she launched the Prometheus private equity Energy Fund, which was purchased by Denham Capital Management LLC in 2008, at a return to Guardian that exceeded its target.
Mrs. Thompson also spent seven years in management consulting at the Boston Consulting Group in Toronto, New York, Buenos Aires and Melbourne, Australia where she advised Fortune 500 companies in the areas of strategy, organisational development, acquisitions and process reengineering. Mrs. Thompson, in addition to her recent appointment to the UTC Board of Directors, also sits on the boards of CariSal Unlimited, EthylChem Ltd., Ten Degrees North, Caribbean Communications Network (CCN), DevCap Ltd. (a subsidiary of Development Finance Limited) and the Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business.
She holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from Queen’s University and a Masters in Business Administration from the Harvard Business School.
Walton Allison Hilton-Clarke
Walton Allison Hilton-Clarke Mr Hilton-Clarke is Vice-Chairman of the Employers’ Consultative Association of Trinidad & Tobago, and First Vice-President of the Caribbean Employers’ Confederation.
Heavily committed to the tripartite process, he currently serves as chairman of the Standing Cabinet-Appointed Committee on the ILO’s Convention 144, to renew and recommend ratification of ILO Conventions. In addition, he is a member of the ILO Governing Body (based in Geneva, Switzerland), representing the interests of Trinidad & Tobago and the Caribbean.
Apart from UTC, Mr Hilton-Clarke’s other existing directorships include the boards of the Home Mortgage Bank and the National Insurance Board.
Joan John
Ms. Joan John has had extensive experience in the Research and Operations departments of the Central Bank of Trinidad & Tobago, operated at management and senior management levels and performed as Advisor to the Executive Director for T&T on the Board of the IMF.
She has prepared several papers on a number of topics in finance and economics, in particular in the areas of balance of payments, foreign exchange markets and payment systems. Her current responsibilities cover all domestic operations at the Central Bank and include the automation of payments clearance and settlement and the establishment of the payments oversight function. She has represented the Bank at several conferences and seminars and served as the Bank’s representative on regional and international bodies.
Dennis Adrian Gurley
An attorney-at-law, Dennis Adrian Gurley is a Managing Partner at J.D. Sellier & Co.
In addition to serving on the UTC Board as a director, Mr Gurley also serves on the boards of Trinidad and Tobago Stocks & Shares Limited, the Mercantile Banking & Financial Corporation Ltd, Hand Arnold Holdings Ltd; B.H. Rose Limited, the Dispute Resolution Centre, and the President’s Award Foundation. He is also Chairman of Trinidad Publishing Company Limited.
Mr Gurley has written publications dealing with mediation policy and alternative dispute resolution issues, and is a member of the Law Association of Trinidad & Tobago; the Law Society of England and Wales; the International Bar Association; and the Organisation of Commonwealth Caribbean Bar Associations
Maurice Suite
Mr Suite has a wealth of experience in Finance, in both the private and public sectors, and currently holds the position of Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, a position he has held since 2004.
In his career in the public sector, he has had responsibility related to the formulation and implementation of fiscal policy and is a for mer Director of Budgets, Principal Treasury Executive and has also served as Financial Director at the Ministry of Local Government.
He is a Fellow in the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and also holds a postgraduate diploma in Economic Principles from the University of London.
Peter Clarke
Mr Clarke is a Financial Consultant, and has enjoyed a 22-year career in the stock broking industry. During the period 1984-2000, he was the Managing Director of Money Managers Limited, one of Trinidad and Tobago’s leading stock broking firms. He later assumed the role of Managing Director of West Indies Stockbrokers Limited (WISE) and was subsequently appointed Chief Executive Officer in 2001, a position he held until his retirement in December 2005.
In addition to his role of Director of the Unit Trust Corporation, he is also Director of The General Building and Loans Association, Allied Hotels Limited and the Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange, where he served as Chairman from 1995-1999. He has also served as a member of the Betting Levy Board and as Deputy Chairman of the Trinidad and Tobago Free Zones Company Limited.
Mr Clarke obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University in 1976, and later gained a Law degree from Downing College, Cambridge University. He was called to the Bar as a member of Gray’s Inn, London in 1979 and was admitted practise law in Trinidad and Tobago in January 1980. He served as a Barrister-at-Law in private practice until 1984.
